'It's A Shame About Ray' to be honoured on April 23

The Lemonheads will receive the NME Classic Album award for their 1992 album 'It's A Shame About Ray' at the forthcoming inaugural NME Awards USA.

Evan Dando, The Lemonheads' leader, will receive the award at the ceremony on April 23 at the El Ray Theatre in Los Angeles. He will also perform live at the event.

NME Editor Conor McNicholas said: "This is an award voted by the editors of NME to give due appreciation to works of integrity and originality which have had a significant influence over the alternative music scene we all love.

"It is entirely fitting that The Lemonheads' 'It's A Shame About Ray' should be our inaugural choice. It is an album of great charm and warmth that stands the test of time and you can hear echoes of '…Ray' in loads of the great new music being made today.

"We are very excited about Evan Dando agreeing to perform at our Awards and are honoured to be given this opportunity to celebrate the sheer brilliance of 'It's A Shame About Ray'."
