Led Zeppelin reunite at Foo Fighters show
Foo Fighters play "in the round" at Wembley Stadium
Wembley Stadium witnesses shock supergroup show
Foo Fighters teamed up with members of Led Zeppelin for a surprise performance in London tonight (June 7).
As had been widely rumoured all week, Jimmy Page and John Paul Jones joined Dave Grohl and his band on the second night of their weekend residency at Wembley Stadium.
Although singer Robert Plant was busy on solo duties in America, it was the first time members of the rock legends had united onstage since their legendary O2 Arena show in the UK's capital last December.
The one-night-only supergroup came together at the encore of the Foos' show, performing classics 'Rock And Roll' and 'Ramble On'.
During 'Rock And Roll', Grohl returned to the drums in a switchover that saw Foos drummer Taylor Hawkins taking lead vocals.
Grohl had teased the possibility of the collaboration throughout the show. Early on, after playing an extended 'This Is A Call', saying "We're gonna do something we’ve never done at a Foo Fighters show and it's gonna blow your shit out the door! Tonight this is gonna be the show that we're gonna be talking about for the next 20 years!"
The second of the biggest-ever Foo Fighters shows was impressive in itself, with the band playing hits dating back to their aforementioned 1995 debut single on a revolving 'in the round' stage set.
But the whole night was set up for the encore. After leaving the stage following 'Monkey Wrench', a clearly emotional Grohl returned to declare, "playing Wembley Stadium is an honour, and if we didn’t take advantage of this opportunity, the greatest fucking night in our band’s lives… for all 86,000 of you motherfuckers, it isn't gonna be any other show".
The rock legends then joined the Foos for the historic encore. At the end of their stint, Jimmy Page visibly clung on to his guitar after a member of the road crew ran onstage to relieve him of it. The members of the makeshift band then posed arm to arm.
As Page and Jones left the stage before a final encore of 'Best Of You', an ecstatic Grohl shouted "Welcome to the greatest fucking day of my life!" The night ended with an extravagant firework display.
You can watch fan footage of Grohl introducing Jimmy Page and John Paul Jones onstage below.
