Jack White writes poem for Detroit

The White Stripes’ front man Jack White has written a poem to celebrate the city of Detroit to make it clear that he loves the city.

White says that in the past his feelings about his hometown have been misconstrued, and this drove him to wire the poem entitled ‘Courageous Dream’s Concern’, which was published in the Detroit Free Press yesterday (July 6).

White relocated to Nashville two years ago with his wife Karen Elson, and in an interview with the Associated Press in 2006 said he’d left Motor City because he “couldn’t take the negativity anymore”, but told the Detroit Free Press that “Those expressions of mine have never been a representation of my feelings about Detroit the city, a town that I have strong feelings about ... nor were they expressions about its citizens."

He said the poem published yesterday represents his "feelings about the city itself, and how strong I believe it to be” and it is “the Detroit from my mind. The Detroit that is in my heart. The home that encapsulates and envelops those who are truly blessed with the experience of living within its boundaries."
