50 Cent gets ad rap
Poster for film is banned
The poster for 50 Cent’s film 'Get Rich or Die Tryin'' has been slapped down by the Advertising Standards Authority.
The poster, which depicts 50 Cent with a handgun tucked into his jeans while he holds a baby, received 17 complaints.
The ASA has said that the poster breached industry guidelines on social responsibility, decency, violence, anti-social behaviour and children.
They said 50 Cent “had such cultural credibility, especially among young people, that his association with gang culture and criminal behaviour was likely to be seen as glamorising and condoning the possession and use of guns”.
“We also considered the combination of the title ‘Get Rich Or Die Tryin’” and the image of Curtis ’50 Cent’ Jackson carrying a gun could give the impression that success could be achieved through violence,” they added.
