AC/DC slam Apple iTunes

Angus Young reveals why his band boycott the store

AC/DC have slammed the iTunes music download service.

AC/DC frontman Angus Young, whose band refuse to make their songs available on iTunes, said the boycott was because they didn't want fans simply downloading a few tracks of theirs.

"We don't make singles, we make albums," he told the Telegraph.

"We believe the songs on any of our albums belong together. If we were on iTunes, we know a certain percentage of people would only download two or three songs from the album. We don't think that represents us musically."

Young added that despite pressure from industry figures to make AC/DC's songs available on iTunes, he didn't believe that being part of the site was crucial to success.

"Since iTunes came into existence, we've actually increased our back catalogue sales without being on the site," he said. "We were sternly warned by our management team and our record label that the complete opposite would be the case."

AC/DC are set to release a new album, 'Black Ice', on October 20. It won't be available on iTunes.

That doesn't make sense as i-tunes could just lock the tracks so you can't buy the tracks individually, only as a package...

Yes, it's just a coincidence that nobody would want to buy your utterly ridiculous, shit music anyway.

What an appropriate username whatawasteoftime. Between 2004 and 2007, AC/DC sold 7 million physical albums in the U.S alone. More than Pink Floyd, The Eagles, Rolling Stones and Led Zeppelin who are all on ITunes. The only band to top those sales is the Beatles. Who also boycott ITunes. So it appears that quite a few people want to buy their music.Roll on Black Ice.

They're fucking pish and if you like them you must be a spandex-wearing, balding dad rocker with zero taste.

whatawasteoftime......your mum wears spandex

Killing Joke

Now since when have AC/DC worn spandex? Plus you'll find that teenagers up to people in their 50's make up their audience. They truly are the people's band. If you're content to listen to someone manipulating old Nintendo sounds on a laptop and passing it off as 'innovative music', then I'm sorry. Give me good music over hipster 'music' anyday.

AC DC fans also enjoy the Darkness and think Spinal Tap was a serious documentary, you fucking dinosaurs.

Oh dear, oh dear. That's the best you can come off with, whatawasteoftime? I'm disappointed. You're probably a 14 year old who gets bullied at school by metalheads, so you decide that all forms of hard rock/metal is bad. You then retreat into your bedroom and use MySpace to check out obscure 'electro' (consisting of bleeps and bloops over a sampled AC/DC bassline no doubt) and think that you've won some moral victory over rock/metal fans.

What amazing insight you have, Killing Jerk. Amazing, not a single accurate word in your embarrassing post. Just because someone doesn't like laughably outdated dad rock made by preposterous twerps who should have quit years ago, you can't deal with it. Well I for one look forward to your moving out of the 1980s you tragic wanker.

ooooooooooooooooo now now people were all aloud to have our own opinions!!... just a shame that ""whatawasteoftime" is wrong..a knob and most of all full of shit.

Wow, 'Killing Jerk'. Never heard that one before. Let's put it this way: you initally said that "nobody would want to buy" an AC/DC album. I prove otherwise. Then you go on to generalise AC/DC fans. I call you out on it, and you respond to calling me a twat. How very well argued. And you've shown that the scenario I've put forward about you is true, since you are so quick to dismiss it.

Ahhhh, the comedy of it all -- I downloaded "Back In Black" from a dodgy Russian MP3 site because I wanted it as the ringtone on my phone. I'm even tempted to go see them when they do their UK gigs sometime next year. But I shan't be buying any of their "physical" albums, because, as a number of artists have recently argued, albums are increasingly irrelevant in the 21st century. ("Discuss. 25 marks.")
