Adele dominates Billboard Music Awards 2012 with 12 awards

Coldplay, Rihanna and Lil Wayne also score gongs, but are eclipsed by the '21' singer

Adele dominates Billboard Music Awards 2012 with 12 awards

Adele dominated this year's Billboard Music Awards, winning a total of 12 awards at the ceremony in Las Vegas last night (May 20).

The '21' singer, whose second album is approaching 'diamond' selling status in the US, took home the award for Top Artist, Top Female Artist, Top Digital Songs Artist, Top Digital Media Artist, Top Pop Artist and seven other awards.

Coldplay won four awards, including Top Rock Artist and Top Alternative Artist, while Lil Wayne took home three, including Top Rap Artist, Top Rap Album and Top Male Artist.

LMFAO's 'Party Rock Anthem' took home five awards, winning Top Pop, R&B, Hot 100, Digital and Dance song of the year, with Rihanna, Lady Gaga, U2, Beyonce and Justin Bieber among the other winners.

The awards were determined by a combination of chart performances and social and streaming activity as chronicled in Billboard magazine and on Billboard.com.
