XL don't expect new Adele album for 'some years'

Company predict long wait for '21' follow up

Adele's record label, XL Recordings, have stated that they do not expect she will release another album "for some years".

The comment comes following news that the company made £41m in profit in 2011 off the back of Adele's album '21', but they are under no illusion that every year will be as fruitful.

Speaking to The New York Times a spokesperson for the label said: “The next Adele album may not come for some years, and it’s impossible to predict its likely sales. We therefore regard this year’s figures as exceptional.”

The massively popular '21', which features the hit singles ‘Someone Like You’ and ‘Rolling In The Deep’, has sold over 10million copies in the UK. The record profits have seen label boss Richard Russell paid an £8.5million dividend while Martin Mills, chief of parent company Beggars Banquet, received a similar amount.??

The huge sum is put into context by the fact the label saw its bank balance go from £3million to £32million in the space of 12 months.

Adele recently recorded the theme song for the latest James Bond film, Skyfall. The song failed to top the Official UK Singles Chart, however, as it was beaten to the Number One spot by Swedish House Mafia.
