Adele's '21' drops out of UK Top 40 for first time since its release
Adele's second album '21' has dropped out of the Official UK Album Chart top 40 for the first time since it was released last year.

The hugely successful album, which features the singles 'Rolling In The Deep' and 'Someone Like You', was first released on January 24, 2011 and debuted at Number One in its first week, selling over 200,000 copies. Now 22 months after its release, the Official Chart Company have confirmed that '21' is out of the top 40 for the first time, having charted at 42 in this weekend's countdown.

The album has gone on to be certified 15-times platinum by the British Phonographic Industry for selling 4.5 million units. It is also the most downloaded album in UK history, the biggest-selling album of the 21st century in the UK and the fifth best selling album in the UK of all time. The album spent 71 consecutive weeks in the UK Top 10.

Meanwhile, it has been revealed that 'Now That's What I Call Music! 83' is the fastest selling album of 2012 in the UK. According to Music Week, the compilation album sold 295,789 copies in one week from its release on November 19 and is comfortably ahead of big-selling albums from Mumford & Sons, Emeli Sande, One Direction and Rihanna also released this year.

Rihanna's 'Unapologetic' is the current number one album in the UK, with her seventh studio album going straight to the top of the chart this week. This marks Rihanna's third consecutive UK number one album, bringing her level with Madonna in the record books.
