Adele is rumoured to make her live return at this year's Academy Awards.

The singer will reportedly perform her song 'Skyfall', the theme to the latest James Bond movie. Adele is nominated for the Best Original Song prize at the ceremony for the song, which was the soundtrack to Daniel Craig's latest appearance as 007.

BBC News has already confirmed that The Oscars will pay special tribute to the James Bond movies, which turned 50 in 2012. "We are very happy to include a special sequence on our show saluting the Bond films on their 50th birthday," said the producers of this February's Oscars show, Craig Zadan and Neil Meron. Skyfall has made more than $1bn (£616m) globally since its release and is tipped to pick up Academy Award nominations.

Meanwhile, Adele's monstrously successful '21' album has been revealed as the biggest-selling album in the US for the second year in a row. The soul singer has now become the first artist since Michael Jackson to release a record that has topped the sales charts both in the year it was released and the following year.

Figures from Nielsen SoundScan reveal that the album sold 4.41 million copies in 2012, just 25% less than its sales figures for 2011, when it shifted 5.82 million units. Adele, who equalled the same feat Michael Jackson achieved in the 1980s with the release of 'Thriller', has been in the US Top 40 with the album ever since it was released in March 2011.
