Adele picks up Golden Globe award for 'Skyfall' soundtrack

Singer makes her first public appearance since having a baby

Adele has won a Golden Globe for her theme to the James Bond film 'Skyfall' - watch her amazing acceptance speech above.

Taking to the stage to collect her award for best original song with the track's co-writer Paul Epworth, she said: "Oh my God. Oh my God. Honestly, I've come out for a night out with my friend. We're new Mums. We've literally come for a night out, I was not expecting this."

She added: "It's very strange to be here and thank you so much for letting me be part of your world for a night. It's amazing, we've been pissing ourselves, you know."

The singer had not been seen in public since the birth of her first child in October. Speaking backstage, she told reporters: "I had my child two weeks before the film came out so it was bad timing. It was such an honour to be involved. Normally I write about my misery and this time I wrote according to someone's script. It's absolutely amazing. I took the risk and I'm very proud of it," The Telegraph reports.

When asked to reveal the name of her son, she replied: "I'm not revealing his name. It's too intimate and personal at the moment. I'm enjoying it, thanks for asking."

US TV comedy favourites Tina Fey and Amy Poehler co-hosted the ceremony at the Beverley Hilton Hotel, taking over from Ricky Gervais, whose acid-tongued quips at the A-listers in attendance was a notoriously controversial part of the show for the past three years.

Other winners at the ceremony last night (January 13) include Dame Maggie Smith, who won Best Supporting Actress in a series for her role in Downton Abbey. Meanwhile, Homeland took Best TV Drama, with Damian Lewis winning Best TV Actor for his role in the series.

Quentin Tarantino, picked up the Best Screenplay award for his film Django Unchained, while Christoph Waltz took Best Supporting Actor for his role in the film.

The western lost out to Argo in the Best Drama category along with Steven Spielberg's Lincoln, Life of Pi, Ang Lee's adaption of the Yann Martel novel, and Zero Dark Thirty, Kathryn Bigelow's film about Osama Bin Laden.
