Adele has signed on to provide the theme tune for the next James Bond film, according to reports.

Following the critical and commercial success of her track 'Skyfall' - which was the official theme of the 007 flick of the same name - producers of the spy franchise are eager for the singer to become synonymous with the films in a similar vein to Shirley Bassey, who sung famous Bond hits such as 'Diamonds Are Forever', 'Mooraker' and 'Goldfinger'.

"Producers are thrilled by how well the song has been received and hope Adele’s presence on the next film will replicate that success," a source told the Sun. "They want her to become as synonymous with Bond as Dame Shirley."

Adele's single for the Skyfall was a huge success, with her and co-writer Paul Epworth winning Best Original Song at the Oscars last month. The song also collected a Golden Globe, and a Brit Award for Best British Single.

Yesterday (March 2), meanwhile, Adele insisted that she will only release a new album when she has "something to sing about". Her last studio LP, '21', has been a remarkable commercial success since its release. In December last year it became the fourth biggest-selling album of all time in the UK after its sales figures overtook Oasis's '(What's The Story) Morning Glory'. It has been no less popular in the US, either, with figures in January of this year revealing that it had become the country's biggest-selling album for the second year in a row.
