Adele has said in a statement that receiving her MBE honour from Prince Charles was "very posh indeed".

The singer picked up her MBE at Buckingham Palace yesterday (December 19). She was given the title Miss Adele Adkins MBE by Prince Charles after being named in the Queen's Birthday Honours list for services to the music industry.

In a statement released after the ceremony via MTV, Adele said: "It was an honour to be recognised and a very proud moment to be awarded alongside such wonderful and inspirational people. Very posh indeed."

Adele joined fellow musician PJ Harvey as well as broadcaster Aled Jones and author Joanne Harris who also received 'Most Excellent Order of the British Empire' titles this year.

Adele was awarded an Oscar for Best Original Song earlier in February for 'Skyfall', the latest James Bond movie theme song. She also bagged her ninth Grammy for Best Pop Solo Performance for 'Set Fire To The Rain' the same month. The 25-year-old's second album '21' was released in 2011 and has since topped the charts in more than 30 countries, holding on to the UK Offical Album Chart top spot for 23 weeks after its release. Selling 28 million copies worldwide, the album has been named Amazon's best-selling album of all time and has gone platinum in the UK 16 times.
