Adele has broken yet another record with the US sales of her new album '25'.

According to Nielsen Music, it sold 3.38 million copies in its first week of sales in the US, which is the most Nielsen has ever recorded since it began analysing point-of-sale statistics in 1991.

In Nielsen's 24-year history, '25' is the first album to pass the 3-million sales mark in its first week of release and only the second to exceed 2 million sales in one week.

In the middle of last week, '25' beat the previous single-week record in the US by ousting *NSYNC's 'No Strings Attached', which sold 2.42 million in a single week in 2000. In just one week '25' has become the biggest-selling album of 2015 in the US, beating the previous holder of the title, Taylor Swift's '1989', which had sold 1.8 million copies.

The album also became the fastest-selling album of all time in the UK, where it sold 800,307 copies in one week – an Official Chart Company record. The album passed the previous record holders Oasis and their 1997 album 'Be Here Now' on Thursday. 'Be Here Now' sold 696,000 copies in its first week of its release.

Official Chart Company data shows that '25' has sold more than the rest of the next 86 albums in the chart combined and more than the last 19 Number One albums in the UK combined too. The album is already certified double platinum by the BPI.

Additionally, '25' is now the most downloaded Number One album of all time in the UK after being downloaded 252,423 times this week.
