[a]Afghan Whigs[/a] are returning with their new album in October...

Afghan Whigs are set to release their new album in October - their first since bing dropped by Elektra.

The Whigs' new album, '1965', is to be released on October 13 through Sony label Columbia. It's the band's sixth, and follows on from the critically lauded 'Gentlemen' (1993), and 'Black Love' (1996). The album was recorded in New Orleans and Seattle.

The band's singer, Greg Dulli, produced the album, as he had with the last two albums. According to muzic.com, he brought in Black Crowes producer George Drakoulias and Dave Bianco (Frank Black, Teenage Fanclub) to assist with mixing.

The track listing is: 'Something Hot', 'Crazy', 'Uptown Again', 'Sweet Son Of A Bitch', '66', 'Citi Soleil', 'John The Baptist', 'Slide Song', 'Sylvia', 'Omerta', and 'The Vampire Lanois'. The track 'Crazy' includes backing vocals from former Big Star singer Alex Chilton.

The band will be playing a Reading Festival warm-up at the Subterania in London on August 26, before playing the main stage on Friday at the festival.
