Delay to their new album is the reason

AFI have pulled out of the 2006 Big Day Out festival.

The band are currently in the studio, but work on their new album is running late, and the record is now not due for completion until next year. Plans for touring have consequently been put on hold.

Big Day Out organisers are searching for a replacement. Among those confirmed to play already are The , Iggy & The Stooges, Franz Ferdinand, Kings Of Leon, The Go! Team, The Mars Volta and The Magic Numbers.

The dates are:

Auckland Ericsson Stadium (January 20)

Gold Coast Parklands (22)

Sydney Showground (26)

Princes Park South (29)

Royal Adelaide Showground (February 3)

Claremont Showground (5)
