Albert Hammond is set to be inducted into the 2008
Songwriters Hall of Fame, it has been announced.
The organisation is dedicated to recognizing the work and lives of those composers and lyricists who create popular music around the world, and will honour this year’s inductees at a ceremony on June 19 in New York City.
Hammond, the father of The Strokes’ guitarist turned successful solo act Albert Hammond, Jr., is British native who collaborated with Mike Hazelwood writing ‘Gimme Dat Ding’ for The Pipkins and ‘It Never Rains In Southern California’ which Hammond himself recorded.
Hammond also wrote international hit ‘Nothing's Gonna Stop Us Now’ for Starship and Chicago's ‘I Don't Wanna Live Without Your Love’ in collaboration with Diane Warren. He also co-wrote ‘To All the Girls I've Loved Before’ made famous by Willie Nelson and Julio Iglesias.
Hammond's songs have been recorded by a slew of superstars including Johnny Cash, , Neil Diamond, Céline Dion, Art Garfunkel, The Hollies, Whitney Houston, Tom Jones, Johnny Mathis, Roy Orbison, Diana Ross and Tina Turner.
Meanwhile, Albert Hammond, Jr. is gearing up for the release of his second album, the follow up to ‘Yours To Keep’. The record is slated for a June release.
