Alicia Keys has spoken out in support of Beyoncé, who, it has been claimed, may have lip-synched at President Obama's inauguration on Monday (January 21).

Keys told MTV "The one thing that you cannot doubt is that she can sing. She absolutely can sing. All the rest of the 'whys' or 'whatever', we know that she can deliver and she did deliver that song really beautifully."

While Beyonce herself is yet to comment on the situation, Aretha Franklin, who sang at the event in 2009 told ABC News: "I thought it was funny because the weather down there was about 46 or 44 degrees and for most singers that is just not good singing weather. When I heard that I just really cracked up. I thought it was really funny, but she did a beautiful job with the pre-record."

Yesterday, (January 24), the Marine Corps Band which accompanied the singer at her performance issued a statement saying they simply don't know if she was miming or not. The day before, a leading sound production website claimed that Beyonce did sing live. In a detailed blog post, ProductionAdvice.co.uk stated that she is clearly singing live at the inauguration, even if a backing track is also audible. The sound experts on the site state that there are three signs Beyoncé is singing live, including that "when she starts singing, her voice is hard to hear – the microphone gain is too low. The sound-man quickly corrects this – but if we were listening to a recording this wouldn’t happen".
