Alt-J have announced that they will compose the soundtrack to a new British indie film.

The Mercury Music Prize-winning band will collaborate with Bruce Goodison to compose the score for his new film Leave To Remain, which stars actor Toby Jones. The plot focuses around a group of teenagers escaping difficult pasts in other countries who are learning to survive in the UK – and fighting for the right to stay here. "Learning about these teenagers’ experiences for the first time, I struggled to contemplate how they could be cast away from everything familiar to them, plunged into an alien society and expected to build a life. I hope their stories will encourage us to reflect on the country we call home," Goodison said in a statement.

The band were approached to do the project after the Goodison wrote the script for the film while listening to their debut LP 'An Awesome Wave'. “I was immediately charmed by the soulful nature of their music. It felt like the perfect accompaniment to the emotional journey of my characters,” he says.

Alt-J are up for three gongs in tomorrow's Brit Awards including Best British Group, Best British Album and British Breakthrough.
