Amanda Palmer covers Radiohead’s 'Creep' at SXSW

Dresden Dolls frontwoman draws huge crowd in Austin

A jet-lagged Amanda Palmer played to a packed-out crowd in the yard of the Radio Room venue at 1.35pm (CST) today (March 18th) at the South By Southwest festival in Austin.

The sometime Dresden Doll, fresh off the plane from Australia, confessed that she hadn't prepared a setlist and opened the floor up to requests, ending her set with a cover of Radiohead's 'Creep'.

Palmer laughed when requests for songs by Slayer and Lynard Skynard were yelled out amongst calls for her own songs, both from her Dresden Dolls and solo back catalogues.

Wearing a black dress with white crochet straps and fishnet tights, and drinking the party's free beer, the singer played songs from her second solo album, the Ben Folds-produced 'Who Killed Amanda Palmer'. "I put out a really great record last year. You should download it," she told the crowd, before quickly adding: "Don't tell my label I said that."

Thrashing down on her keyboard, she played her "song about date rape", 'Oasis', and finished saying, "I feel like I should not end this party without playing one song on the ukulele."

Stepping away from her microphone to the front of the stage she started an unplugged ukulele version of Radiohead's 'Creep', with the whole crowd singing the last chorus.
