Amanda Palmer has performed a mash-up of songs made famous by feuding pop stars Miley Cyrus and Sinead O'Connor – scroll down to the bottom of the page and click to watch.

Cyrus and O'Connor had a disagreement last week after the Irish singer published an open letter warning Cyrus not let the music industry make a "prostitute" out of her. Cyrus has since been criticised by mental health charities for mocking O'Connor's battles with psychological illnesses over the years, although O'Connor subsequently claimed that their spat was "over".

Palmer also penned an open letter of her own in which she defended Cyrus' behaviour and insisted that the singer was trying to "write her own script", adding: "Let's give our young women the right weapons to fight with as they charge naked into battle, instead of ordering them to get back in the house and put some goddamn clothes on."

The former Dresden Dolls member also tried to address the rift between the pair at a gig in the US. Introducing her mash-up of 'Wrecking Ball' and O'Connor's famous cover of Prince's 'Nothing Compares 2 U', she said: "What I wish to convey with this song is a peace-brokering between Sinead, who's awesome, and Miley, who's awesome - may they see their similarities instead of their differences."

Cyrus's much-hyped album 'Bangerz' is released today (October 7). The LP, which is her fourth studio album, features the singles 'Wrecking Ball' and 'We Can't Stop'.
