LA rave to feature all-star DJs
Amon Tobin, DJ Spooky will spin tunes at Disney Hall
Amon Tobin, DJ Spooky, Cut Chemist and Peanut Butter Wolf are among the DJs who will spin tunes at a unique event to be held at Los Angeles' Walt Disney Concert Hall on May 26.
The late-night, multimedia rave, called Pravda, will be the first of its kind to take place at the renowned classical concert hall designed by architect Frank Gehry, mastermind of the similarly striking Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao, Spain.
The DJs will remix music by Shostakovich, Prokofiev and Mosolov to a backdrop of historic Russian film clips and live art installations at the event, which is being dubbed "a progressive exploration of the sounds, sights, and philosophies of the Stalin era".
In addition to dancing and DJing, the evening will feature a midnight performance by a 10-piece theremin orchestra in celebration of the birthday of the late Robert Moog.
The inventor of the Moog synthesizer, his company also manufacturers theremins, widely considered to be the first fully electronic instrument.
