Singer also admits she 'doesn't want to be a role model'

Amy Winehouse has kicked up controversy in the US after performing a shocking self-harm stunt.

The singer is alleged to have carved the name of her husband Blake Fielder-Civil into her stomach with a shard of glass.

The bizarre incident was part of a series of rants revealed during an interview with Spin magazine.

“I'm not in this to be a fucking role model,” she said. “I don’t care. I don’t care about any of this and I don’t have much of an opinion of myself. I don’t think people care about me. I made an album I’m very proud of and that’s about it.

“I write songs because I'm fucked in the head and need to get something good out of something bad. I thought, ‘I’m going to die if I don’t write down the way I feel. I’m going to do myself in.’ It’s nothing spectacular."

The scenes echoed those of former Manic Street Preacher Richey Edwards who once famously carved '4 Real' into his arm during an interview with former NME journalist Steve Lamacq.

The singer is due to perform at Oxegen and T In The Park next weekend (July 7-8)
