Amy Winehouse is appealing a fine she received in Norway for drug charges related to marijuana posession.

The singer and her husband Blake Fielder-Civil each paid fines of $715 to be released from a Bergen jail where they were held overnight on October 18 for illegal drug possession.

Winehouse's Norwegian attorney, Ole Kvelstad, said Winehouse was appealing to the Gulating district court because she hadn't understood that, under Norwegian law, accepting a fine is the same as pleading guilty, reports the Associated Press.

"This is an appeal of errors police made in the case," he said.

Kvelstad added that they are concerned that pleading guilty to drug charges could negatively affect Winehouse's ability to enter the United States.
