Singer cancels appearance to tackle drug addiction
Amy Winehouse has entered a rehabilitation clinic to treat her drug addiction problem, it was announced today (January 24).
The singer, who was captured on video last week allegedly smoking crack, has cancelled her appearance at France's NRJ Awards on Saturday (January 26) in order to enter the clinic.
Winehouse's label Universal Music Group issued the following statement: "Amy decided to enter the facility today after talks with her record label, management, family and doctors. She has come to understand that she requires specialist treatment to continue her ongoing recovery from drug addiction and prepare for her planned appearance at the Grammy Awards."
"Amy entered the facility by mutual agreement and continues to receive the full support of all concerned."
The label added that it has always had the singer's best interests at heart and will put her health before all other considerations.
Winehouse earned six Grammy nominations and is scheduled to appear at the February 10 ceremony in Los Angeles.
