Amy Winehouse: 'I should have cancelled' live comeback

Singer suffers from 'weak' voice during festival return

Amy Winehouse played her first gig of 2008 last night (May 31), but told the crowd she "should have cancelled" her live return in Lisbon, Portugal.

The singer performed at the Rock in Rio Lisboa event, the first time she has taken to the stage in public since cancelling a series of shows in November last year – although she did perform before an invited audience at the Grammy Awards in February.

Taking to the stage half-an-hour-late, Winehouse repeatedly apologised for her weak voice admitting she "should have cancelled".

According BBC News, the singer, who sucked on throat pastels throughout her set, also dropped her microphone on several occasions.

"My voice is not singing right and I can't even hold the microphone," she told the sell out crowd. "But I wanted to be here so much."

The set included the likes of 'Rehab', 'Me And Mr Jones', 'Valerie' and a version of 'Cupid' which she changed the lyrics so it referenced her husband, Blake Fielder-Civil, who is currently in prison on remand.

Instead of singing: "I love a girl who doesn't know I exist" she sang "I love a man you know who's banged up in jail".

Winehouse then announced to the crowd that her husband was "still the handsomest bloke you ever seen in your life".

With singer wrapping up her set on time, meaning she played a third less songs than expected, crowd reaction to her comeback clearly was divided.

The four day event is now set to continue with the likes of Metallica, Bon Jovi, Joss Stone and Kaiser Chiefs scheduled to play.
