'£200,000' bribe in Amy Winehouse's husband's court case

Court hears about bribe money offered to assault victim

A court today (June 10) heard how James King, who was allegedly assaulted by Amy Winehouse's husband Blake Fielder-Civil, accepted a £200,000 bribe following the incident.

During Fielder-Civil's trial at Snaresbrook Crown Court it was heard that a deal was struck whereby King would receive the money then leave the country and say that he no longer wished to pursue the prosecution of those who assaulted him, reports BBC News.

Yesterday (June 9) it was revealed that Blake Fielder-Civil and two associates, Anthony Kelly and James Kennedy, pleaded guilty to assault and perverting the course of justice. King denies perverting the course of justice.

The jury was told today that King made a withdrawal statement that was recorded in 2005. He claims he was intimidated into making the statement.

The court heard how three doctors who examined wounds which King claimed were caused by "heavy-looking" men who intimidated him into making the statement "appeared self-inflicted".

The trial continues.
