Doctors give verdict on stricken singer

Amy Winehouse has been diagnosed as suffering from the lung disease emphysema.

Her father, Mitch Winehouse, told the Sunday Mirror that doctors have warned his daughter that if she continues to smoke drugs she will die.

The condition is a progressive lung condition that leaves those suffering from it struggling for breath. It is caused after damage to the lung structure is caused – usually after activities such as smoking.

"She's got emphysema – it's in its early stages, but had it gone on for another month they painted a very vivid picture of her sitting there like an old person with a mask on her face struggling to breathe," Mitch Winehouse said.

"With smoking the crack cocaine and the cigarettes her lungs are all gunked up," he continued. "There are nodules around the chest and dark marks. She's got 70 per cent lung capacity."

The singer's father went on to condemn Pete Doherty, who his daughter has recently been hanging out with. "I don't want her hanging out with her mates like Pete Doherty," he said. "What hope does she have if people are taking drugs around her?"

amy is on track to kill herself unless she sorts herself out immediatealy. Her familey and true friends must have tried so hard to help her but now she must really help herself and clean up her act. What a waste of talent and a life.

What right does he have to slate pete? It's his own daughter.. maybe he should consider what he brought her up to be than blaming others for his mistake. No-one forces her to take drugs.

It's easy to say she deserves it - but no one deserves that. Obviously it's her own fault and she's the one who needs to sort it out, but you have to feel at least a bit of sympathy, surely?!

Its easy for people to condemn her and her attitude and all the addicts around her, but whats the point? She's ill now from her addictions, which will no doubt tear her mind, body and soul apart into shreds and beyond. But still, people are quite happy to slate her, blame her, blame addict friends, blame the industry .... what ever !Do you get off on all this?Theres no sympathy with some people, and certainly no understanding !!Maybe people should be more educated on what addiction is. Its not as simple a people think. Its deep rooted and can destroy ANYONE, not just certain people, it effects rich, poor, black, white, whoever it wants to.Come on, what ever state she is in, whatever mistakes she has made, at the end of the day she deserves help, just like you and me, like everyone would.I dont see many people slating Kurt Cobain? Or was that just because he did himself in??THINK !

Why blame Doherty? Its Whinehouse with the lung disease. Cant have the lad for everything.

what has peter doherty got to do with any of this? Amy winehouse is her own person and im sure she can make her own decisions, she needs to stop this once and for all, by herself, it doesn't matter who is around her.

Its fair enough for her father to be concerned about her health but at the end of the day she is her own person, and for him to condemn Pete Doherty is entirely unfair, I understand entirely that if your friends are doing drugs around you, it instantly makes it harder to keep away from them, but Amy has her own mind and can make her own decisions.
