NME.COM users have been paying tribute to Amy Winehouse, who died at the age of 27 yesterday (July 23).

Fans have been paying their respects to the singer by commenting on NME news stories and posting on the NME Facebook page, Facebook.com/nmemagazine.

NME.COM user John Simm summed up the mood of many fans, commenting: "A terrible waste of a superb talent."

Solange Lourenco added that Winehouse's death was an "unfortunate loss of a young [woman] with so much success and so much road to tread."

Dan Retro Reville compared Winehouse to Nirvana singer Kurt Cobain, who also passed away at the age of 27 in 1994. "Cobain had one masterpiece album in the grunge genre, Amy had one in the soul. She was equally as talented as he was. And probably would have gone on to be as great as Janis Joplin," he said.

Crystal Muffins said that lessons needed to be learned from Winehouse's problems with substance abuse, commenting: "I think we should learn from it and try to stop the illegal drugs industry that is destroying lives every day."

And Eoin Mac Carthaigh declared: "Today a genuinely brilliant and talented woman died. The word legend is used too often and too loosely these days but Amy was a legend."
