Mitch Winehouse has branded the coroner's office "idiots" after they "fucked up" the original inquest into his daughter Amy's death.

A second inquest held yesterday (January 8) at London's St Pancras Coroner's Court confirmed that Amy Winehouse died as a result of accidental alcohol poisoning in July 2011. The verdict is identical to the one recorded at the first hearing in October 2011, which had to be repeated after the deputy coroner was found to lack the relevant experience.

The new inquest heard the same evidence as the first hearing. The singer's bodyguard Andrew Morris said that Winehouse had been watching YouTube videos of herself the night before she died. When her body was discovered the next day, two empty vodka bottles were found on the floor beside her bed.

Following yesterday's confirmation of the original verdict, Mitch Winehouse took to Twitter to express his dissatisfaction. He posted: "Thanks for your kind messages today. The idiots at the coroner's office fucked up but we are fine."

After the first hearing in October 2011, the coroner's report was sent to the wrong address. Reflecting on the entire process yesterday, Mitch Winehouse told The Evening Standard: "It was a massive cock up. They messed up twice. It is preposterous. It is the same evidence so it was bound to reach the same conclusion. What other conclusion could they reach?"

He also explained why he decided not to attend yesterday's second hearing, saying: "I wasn't going to put my family through that, it was horrible. That is the end of the story."
