Hollywood biopic of Amy Winehouse ruled out by father Mitch

Singer's father doesn't want his daughter's life to get Hollywood treatment

Mitch Winehouse has insisted that he will not allow Hollywood to make a biopic of the life of his daughter Amy Winehouse.

A film about the late singer has long been mooted – just a month after Winehouse's death in July 2011, for example, rumours circulated that Lady Gaga wanted to play the lead role – and in December 2011, the singer's family said they would "entertain" the idea of a big-screen telling of her life.

Speaking to Digital Spy at the annual Amy Winehouse Foundation Ball at London's Dorchester Hotel yesterday evening (November 20), however, her father said he did not want the project to take place.

"I don't really want to do a biopic, but there's a documentary film from the same people who did Senna coming out next year," he said. He also spoke about the possibility of staging a memorial gig in his daughter's honour, adding: "A concert would be amazing, but it's actually getting it together with the [record label]. It sounds great in theory, but in practice it's not so easy. We are talking about it though."

Senna director Asif Kapadia was given the go-ahead to make a documentary on Amy Winehouse's life in April of this year. In September, meanwhile, Mitch revealed that he had discovered a new, unreleased song recorded by his daughter before her death.
