Animal Collective have announced details of a "psychedelic" art show, which will take place at New York's Guggenheim Museum.

Taking place on March 4 to celebrate the museum's 50th anniversary, Transverse Temporal Gyrus is a collaboration between the band and Danny Perez, and will feature music recorded specifically for the show.

"As New Yorkers, we are all familiar with the everyday noise around us," the band said in a statement. "We wanted to create an environment where people could take some time to listen to other kinds of sounds and get away from those familiar sounds of the city."

Inviting people to "take some time out and sit with us", the group explained that they will turn the museum into a "mysterious hideaway" with music, projections, costumes and props.

Tickets for the three-hour performance go on sale for museum members tomorrow (February 18) at 10am (EST) and for non-members on Friday (February 19) at 10am (EST).
