Anna Calvi has told NME her arm is back on the mend after she recently injured it during the Emerge NME Radar Tour.

The singer, who drafted in a guest guitarist to help her out during the early part of her jaunt, said she’s finally started playing again as she prepared to perform at The Great Escape festival in Brighton last night (May 13).

"My hand is a lot better, I have to admit,” she said. "I’m just slowly building up playing again. It’s been a new challenge doing the Radar Tour definitely. But in a way it’s quite interesting because it just means that I have to focus on singing and to be honest it will probably make me a better singer."



The singer-songwriter made her second appearance at The Great Escape later after she celebrated Brian Eno’s birthday at the three-day bash last year. "It’s nice coming back and I’m looking forward to maybe having a bit of a bigger audience this year," she said.

She continued: "Last year it was a very small venue and the record wasn’t out yet. But it was great because it was Brian Eno’s birthday and he came along."

The singer managed to perform on guitar with no problems later as she played a host of tracks from her self-titled debut album including 'Love Won't Be Leaving' and 'Rider To The Sea' at the Komedia bar.

Earlier, Friendly Fires packed out the Brighton Dome as they showcased tracks from their new album 'Pala', including recent single 'Live Those Days Tonight'. Over at the Corn Exchange Katy B drafted in a brass section for her set, performing a host of tracks from her debut album, including 'Katy On A Mission' and 'Broken Record'. She also sang Magnetic Man's 'Perfect Stranger', which she features on.

Also appearing at The Great Escape festival last night were The View, Brother and Mona.
