Antony & The Johnsons line up bizarre stage show
Singer returns to roots for London gigs
Antony & The Johnsons and video artist Charles Atlas are collaborating for a bizarre multi-media performance at London's Barbican Hall next month.
The pair will be joining forces for a show that recalls singer Antony Hegarty's early career.
Entitled 'Turning', the performance features vocals by Hegarty against a backdrop of video footage featuring a procession of models know as 'NYC Beauties', whose portraits are projected whilst slowing turning onstage.
The show is based on early plays Hegarty took part in during the 1990s in the former New York underground club, Mother.
Speaking about his early performances Hegarty told The Guardian said: "The stage was tiny, not much more than the size of an elevator. But we did a lot of shows at Mother: installation type things, singing songs surrounded by drug-addicted drag queens and camp ladies of the evening. Everyone performed at the place, from Debbie Harry on down ..."
'Turning' takes place at Barbican Hall on November 4-5.
