Arcade Fire nominated for a new award
Antony & The Johnsons and MIA amongst the other nominees
Arcade Fire’s ‘Funeral’ has been nominated for the first New Pantheon Award.
It is in recognition of albums that have sold less than 500,000 copies in the United States and is said to be modelled on the Mercury Music Prize.
The full shortlist of nominated albums are:
Fiona Apple - ‘Extraordinary Machine’
Arcade Fire - ‘Funeral’
Animal Collective - ‘Feels’
Antony and The Johnsons - ‘I Am A Bird Now’
Bloc Party - ‘Silent Alarm’
Death Cab For Cutie - ‘Plans’
The Decemberists - ‘Picaresque’
Kings Of Leon - ‘Aha Shake Heartbreak’
MIA - ‘Arular’
Sufjan Stevens - 'Illinois’
The winner is selected by a celebrity panel, that includes Beck, Garbage’s Shirley Manson and Elton John.
The winner will be announced on February 6 during a ceremony in LA.
