Arcade Fire announce plans for celebrity charity basketball match in Canada

Band members, NBA stars and Vampire Weekend all sign up for the 'POP vs. Jocks' event

Arcade Fire frontman Win Butler has announced plans for a special charity basketball match in his hometown.

The singer is staging the 'POP vs. Jocks' event, featuring NBA stars including San Antonio Spurs' Matt Bonner and musicians such as Vampire Weekend drummer Chris Tomson, at Montreal's McGill University Sports Centre on September 24.

The event, which is part of the POP Montreal International Music Festival, will also see Butler take part in the match along with his brother and bandmember Will Butler.

Arcade Fire's Régine Chassagne will play organ, and band member Richard Reed Parry will premiere a bicycle symphony called 'Drones' during the halftime show, which will also feature Kid Koala.

The band are due to perform a gig during the four-day festival on September 21. The POP Montreal International Music Festival will be held from September 21-25.
