Arcade Fire play secret Montreal show under name of Les Identiks

Band played new material at Breakglass Studios on Saturday (December 1)

Arcade Fire played a secret gig under the name of Les Identiks in Canada on Saturday night (December 1).

The tiny club show saw the band play a host of new material as they road tested songs which could feature on their fourth album, due for release in 2013. Around 100 people were in attendance at the Breakglass Studios in Montreal to see the band play under the pseudonym.

All mobile phones and cameras were banned throughout the performance, however the Arcade Fire Tube fansite has documented the evening, revealing that the new songs the bands played were "fun, dance-y and groovy".

It is also reported that the tone of the new songs Win Butler and co. played was "rooted in the mid 19th century and the African American history in the US". You can see a full round up of tweets from Arcade Fire's secret show gathered below.

Earlier this year, Arcade Fire drummer Jeremy Dara updated fans on the status of the band's new album. Speaking to Ottawa radio station CKCU 93.1 he explained that for the follow-up to 2010's 'The Suburbs', they had to leave their old church-based studio, as the roof had collapsed. They now have a new space where they are working 'full-time'.

He said: "Now we're in the studio pretty much full-time just doing what we do. And we kind of shut the door. We haven't really gone out and done anything in over a year now. We haven't done photos or interviews or anything. We're just working on music and growing beards and living at home a lot and going out to dinner together."

He added: "We are under no pressure from record labels or management or whatever to do anything on any sort of schedule," he added. "We're just working. We have no deadlines. It's kind of coming along."
