Arcade Fire and Karen O receive Oscar nominations

Pharrell Williams and Owen Pallett also in the running for this year's Academy Awards

Arcade Fire, Pharrell Williams and Yeah Yeah Yeahs' Karen O are among the music artists nominated at this year's Academy Awards.

The nominees for the 2014 Academy Awards were announced earlier today with Arcade Fire, Karen O and Owen Pallett all receiving nominations each for their work on Spike Jonze's film Her. Arcade Fire and Pallett's work on the score to the film has been recognised in the Best Original Score category, while Karen O's 'The Moon Song' is up for Best Original Song.

Other nominees in the Best Original Song category include Pharrell's 'Happy' (from Despicable Me 2) and U2's 'Ordinary Love' from Mandela: Long Walk To Freedom plus Bruce Broughton and Dennis Spiegel's 'Alone Yet Not Alone' (from Alone Yet Not Alone), and Kristen Anderson-Lopez/Robert Lopez' 'Let It Go' (from Frozen).

Arcade Fire and Herface competition in the Best Original Score category from the composers behind the music in The Book Thief, Gravity, Philomena and Saving Mr Banks.

The 2014 Academy Awards takes place on March 2. 12 Years A Slave and Gravity lead the list of nominees with 10 nominations each. Click here for a full list of this year's nominees.
