An Arcade Fire fan has proposed to his girlfriend during the band’s gig in California.

During the concert at Mountain View Shoreline Amphitheatre on Thursday (July 31), the fan proposed to his girlfriend in the front row near the end of ‘Neighbourhood #1 (Tunnels)’.

When he realised what was happening, smiling singer Win Butler handed the fan his microphone. The man yelled: “Let’s spend the rest of our lives together” as his partner replied: “Yes!” before returning the mic to Butler. At the end of the song, Butler nodded and said “Congratulations” at the happy couple. Fan-shot footage of the proposal can be seen below.

Arcade Fire covered Creedence Clearwater Revival’s ‘Hey Tonight’ at the same venue the previous night, as part of the tour’s tradition of covering local artists. They’ve also covered The Smiths, Echo And The Bunnymen and INXS among others.

The tour finishes on August 30 with a homecoming concert at Montreal’s Parc Jean-Drapeau. It continues in Los Angeles tonight (August 2).

Paul McCartney witnessed a marriage proposal during his gig in New York on July 5.
