Arctic Monkeys play secret warm up show
It’s ‘wonderful’ to play hometown show say band
Arctic Monkeys played a secret hometown show tonight (August 23).
The band played at Barnsley’s Citrus Club – down the road from their homes – to get ready for their slots at the Carling Weekend: Reading And Leeds Festivals this weekend (August 25-27).
Speaking exclusively to NME.COM after the show drummer Matt Helders admitted the band enjoyed playing the show – which was an old fashioned pay on the door affair – so close to their stomping grounds.
“It was wonderful to play local,” he said. “The crowd were really up for it, and it was nice to play close to where we grew up and went to college. We won’t get to do this very often so we really appreciate it when we can.”
The band played:
'I Bet You Look Good On The Dancefloor'
'Still Take You Home'
'You Probably Couldn't See For The Lights But You Were Looking Straight At Me'
'Leave Before The Lights Come On'
'Cigarette Smoker Fiona'
'Perhaps Vampires Is A Bit Strong But...'
'Dancing Shoes'
'Riot Van'
'The View From The Afternoon'
'Red Light Indicates Doors Are Secured'
'Bigger Boys And Stolen Sweethearts'
'From The Ritz To The Rubble'
'Fake Tales Of San Francisco'
'Mardy Bum'
'When The Sun Goes Down'
'A Certain Romance'
The show also saw frontman Alex Turner pay tribute to the local football team Barnsley for reaching the Football League Championship via the playoffs last season.
Arctic Monkeys are set to play another warm-up show at the London Forum tomorrow night (August 24). That gig is already sold out.
