Arctic Monkeys fans react to new album

NME.COM users give their verdict on 'Favourite Worst Nightmare'

Arctic Monkeys fans have given the band's new album a massive thumbs up.

'Favourite Worst Nightmare', which was released yesterday (April 23), has been branded "amazing" by the majority of fans who flooded NME.COM with their comments.

Alex Mertekis, from Yorkshire, who managed to get hold of the album two days before its general release, said it fulfilled all his expectations.

He added: "It's amazing, just as NME told me it would be. Those tickets to the Lancashire County Cricket Ground in July just got a whole lot more worthy to me. God bless you (Alex) Turner, (Matt) Helders, (Jamie) Cook, and(Nick) O'Malley."

Nigel Keough, from Perth, Western Australia described 'Favourite Worst Nightmare' as having the "raw edge of early Jam material yet oozes with maturity".

"This album shoots from the traps at a furious pace and it's five songs in before you even get a chance to draw your breath," he said. "'Fluorescent Adolescent' is the outstanding track in this raucous pub rock first half while 'Only Ones Who Know' seems to serve as the glue that sticks the halves together. The second half moves towards stadium rock with 'Old Yellow Bricks' and the album closer '505' clearly the standout tracks."

Another claimed the Sheffield four-piece's second album was a major step forward from their 2006 debut 'Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not'.

They added: "'Favourite Worst Nightmare' is all the parts of Arctic Monkeys' debut that we love, only this time slightly more darker, experimental and better. I can imagine the songs being sang word-for-word by everyone at the summer festivals."

Summing up the album one fan concluded: "What they're doing right now makes most other bands around seem pointless."
