Arctic Monkeys' Alex Turner makes surprise appearance with The Rascals

The frontman joins the newcomers at Shockwaves NME Awards Show

Arctic Monkeys frontman Alex Turner made a surprise appearance at the Shockwaves NME Awards show in London tonight (February 7).

The frontman joined up with highly-rated newcomers The Rascals at the climax of their set at the Astoria.

Taking the stage to join the Wirral trio on their final song, Turner's arrival was greeted by screams of delight from the crowd.

"I want to introduce my mate Alex," Rascals frontman Miles Kane told the audience. "He is going to help us out with this one."

Turner then played guitar and sung verses on The Rascals' track 'Is It Too Late?'.

Earlier the trio had played a set showcasing their debut album - due out this summer.

Despite battling the muddy sound, songs including 'Freakbeat Phantom', 'I'll Give You Sympathy' and last year's EP track 'Out Of Dreams' garnered cheers from the crowd.

"The ending was one of the best endings ever of a gig," Kane told NME.COM after leaving the stage. "How did we get Alex along? Him and me have been doing press for three days (for their joint record) so I just said come and do this, and he did."

Turner and Kane are set to release an album together in April.

The bill tonight is now set to feature Black Kids and The Pigeon Detectives.
