Arctic Monkeys premiere new music and Lady GaGa cover in video

Watch band in the studio now

New footage of Arctic Monkeys rehearsing their third album in a London studio have appeared on YouTube.

The four-minute video - which you can watch on NME.COM by scrolling down now - shows the band joking around in the studio and covering Lady GaGa's 'Poker Face'.

Midway through the video, the band (augmented by a keyboard player) are seen playing a previously unreleased track.

Drummer Matt Helders narrates the video, which also features footage of a protest outside the Royal Bank Of Scotland that he and bassist Nick O'Malley stumbled into on a walk through central London.

The video sees Helders discuss the recording of Arctic Monkeys' new album, which he says is nearing completion.

"We're just in rehearsals at the moment, in preparation for a spot of recording. We're gonna be away in New York finishing off the album, a few more songs to do," said Helders.

"I dunno how many [songs] we've got to record, but we've done a few quite different songs to what we might have done in the sessions in the desert [with Josh Homme]. So it's gonna be interesting."

Helders ended the video by promising to post more video updates from New York.

does anybody else not feel that the new album may not be as good. Let's face it not many bands have decent albums following their first, and its debatable whether Favourite Worst Nightmare was. It;s a great CD no doubt, but maybe not as good as Whatever People...That being said, and with Turner's commitments to Last Shaddow Puppets will the monkeys be able to pull another one out the bag?

He may be almost as funny as noel gallagher.New song from the vid sounded pretty standard nothing to get excited about, but then again the monkeys have never been really about musical innovation. It'll be interesting to hear what Alex has to say lyrically, see what on his mind these days. They seem like a very self aware bunch so the might pull it out of the bag, but I'm not betting on a Kid A anytime soon. Wank Bank...lol

The new song may not be anything innovative but it features a really beautiful riff... I rewatched that few-second segment numerous times, I couldn't help myself! And what I've heard of the new songs from the Australia shows, plus Terror Pocket and Sandtrap from before - suffice it to say I have no doubts that this album will be magnificent.
