Arctic Monkeys have said they're convinced that their stadium shows at the Don Valley Bowl this weekend will be "special."

Speaking in the new issue of NME, on UK newsstands tomorrow (June 8) or available digitally, the band have said they've always wanted to put on a big show in their hometown, but the possibility of doing it in a tent on Don Valley Bowl was only broached to them this time around.

Asked whether the shows this weekend will be more exciting because they're in Sheffield, drummer Matt Helders replied: "Definitely. They'll feel a bit more special. A bit more personal. Don Valley is coming right at the start of the cycle for the album, they're what it's all kicking off with."

The band also added that they've always intended to do a large outdoor gig in the city. Bassist Nick O'Malley said: "It were always an idea to a big show in Sheffield. But we never really knew where it would be. Then someone suggested Don Valley and pitching a 10,000 capacity tent."

The band headline Sheffield's Don Valley Bowl this Friday (June 10) and Saturday (June 11).

Arctic Monkeys are on the cover of the new issue of NME. It's on UK newsstands tomorrow (June 8) or available digitally.
