The new albums from Daft Punk, Arctic Monkeys and David Bowie have helped boost UK sales of vinyl LPs to a 10-year high.

Official Charts Company sales data released today (October 17) reveals that vinyl sales in the UK are higher than they have been since 2003, boosted by big name albums such as Daft Punk's 'Random Access Memories' and 'AM' by Arctic Monkeys. In total, more than 532,000 LPs have been purchased in the UK so far in 2013, a year-on-year increase of more than 100 per cent.

Vinyl album sales now account for 0.8 per cent of the UK’s albums market, up 0.7 per cent from this time in 2007. The BPI estimate that sales of vinyl albums could surpass 700,000 by the end of the year.

"We’re witnessing a renaissance for records – they’re no longer retromania and are becoming the format of choice for more and more music fans," says The BPI’s Chief Executive, Geoff Taylor. "While sales only account for a small percentage of the overall market, vinyl sales are growing fast as a new generation discovers the magic of 12" artwork, liner notes and the unique sound of analogue records, often accompanied by a download code for MP3s. As we look forward to new LPs from Arcade Fire and Jake Bugg in the run up to Christmas, the vinyl revival looks set to continue."

The Top 10 selling vinyl albums of 2013 in the UK so far are as follows:

Daft Punk – 'Random Access Memories'
Arctic Monkeys – 'AM'
David Bowie – 'The Next Day'
Boards Of Canada – 'Tomorrow's Harvest'
Queens Of The Stone Age – '... Like Clockwork'
Atoms For Peace – 'Amok'
Vampire Weekend – 'Modern Vampires Of The City'
The National – 'Trouble Will Find Me'
Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds – 'Push The Sky Away'
Black Sabbath – '13'
