Aretha Franklin sings at Barack Obama's inauguration

Singer welcomes Obama to the White House

Aretha Franklin has sung the US anthem, 'Let Freedom Ring', at Barack Obama's Presidential inauguration ceremony in Washington DC today (January 20).

The legendary singer performed the song in front of the Capitol Building on Capitol Hill, where millions of people have gathered to see the new President sworn in.

Obama has been joined by his wife Michelle and his two daughters for the ceremony, with Franklin performing while wearing a black outfit including an enormous bow on her head.

Following Franklin's performance, new Vice-President Joe Biden was sworn in, and then after the performance of a piece of music written by 'Star Wars' soundtrack composer John Williams - Obama himself was sworn in as the the 44th President of the United States Of America.

First, the name of the song is "My Country, 'Tis of Thee", not "Let Freedom Ring". Second, it is NOT our national anthem! Remember The Star-Spangled Banner? Sheesh...

Aretha Franklin did NOT sing the US anthem. The National Anthem is "The Star Spangled Banner"!!

Well, The Queen of Soul has had her day and now it is time for her to sit down and hand the reins over to someone who still has a voice. The song she sang, "MY COUNTRY TIS OF THEE" is to be sung with power and pride. Aretha did not do the song justice. It was an embarrassment for someone who once could captivate an audience. She could not hit the high notes, nor could she sustain the notes. It was simply awful. I have a sister who could have done an exceptional job for Barack Obama. "Ree Ree" can give it up. It is like Ali trying to go back into the ring!

She ruined the song. That's it! Simple!
