UK MPS SHOW LOVE FOR ARTHUR LEE

The veteran Love frontman's music is acknowledged by British MPs...

Veteran LOVE frontman and reformed jailbird ARTHUR LEE is to be honoured later this afternoon (June 17) at the HOUSE OF COMMONS.

Several MPs, led by Labour backbencher Peter Bradley, will present Lee with an EDM (early day motion) in recognition of his work and his recent visit to the UK for a sold-out tour.

The EDM is largely ceremonial. The term describes notices of motions given by Members that are not generally expected to be debated within the Commons chamber. Effectively, the tabling of an EDM is a device to draw attention to an issue, and to elicit support for it by the means of inviting other Members to add their signatures to the motion. Bradley and the other MPs are thought simply to be fans of Lee.

Super Furry Animals are another band recently bestowed with an EDM. Theirs came in recognition of their support of Welsh language in their tunes. They didn't visit Parliament to have their EDM formally noted.

Lee will arrive at the Commons at 5.30pm this afternoon. He will be met by Bradley and will take drinks on The Terrace bar. A visit by Prime Minister Tony Blair has also been mooted. Bradley is understood to be meeting him at 3pm and is set to invite Blair, a keen guitarist and avowed rock fan, along to say hello.

The Houses Of Parliament are fast becoming the London venue of choice for visiting stars. [a][/a] moonwalked his way round the corridors of power last Friday (June 14).
