Asobi Seksu play bad-hummus-inspired song at SXSW
And NASA bring on the dance party
Asobi Seksu performed a strong set in the hot afternoon sun on the final day of the South by Southwest Festival yesterday (March 21).
The Brooklyn-based band took the stage half an hour late at the Filter party at Cedar Street Courtyard due to technical difficulties, but were able to finally resolve them to deliver a rousing set for a packed house.
Playing a mix of old and new material, the band focused heavily on their new album 'Hush'. They also played crowd-pleasers 'New Years' and 'Strawberries', which frontwoman Yuki Chikudate said was inspired by guitarist James Hanna's bad dreams.
"This song visited James after eating very bad hummus," she said. "He said the strawberries wouldn't stop talking to him and he had to make them stop."
After a DJ set by Chicago duo Flosstradamus, NASA took the stage. The duo -- Squeak E Clean and DJ Zegon -- spun and mixed tracks by the likes of MIA, Santigold and Pink Floyd while wearing their trademark orange NASA jumpsuits.
They were soon joined by silver-bikini-clad dancers painted green, who worked up the crowd, as well people dressed up as giant eye monsters and aliens.
