Filesharing blog releases end of year stats
Avatar was the most pirated film of 2010, according to new data released by filesharing blog TorrentFreak.com.
Second on the list was Kick-Ass, with 11.4million downloads, followed by Inception with 9.7million.
Last year’s top-pirated film was JJ Abrams‘ Star Trek reboot, which was downloaded 11million times.
Cameron has previously stated his belief that 3D film-making is the film industry’s best hope for combating piracy. Despite being first on the list, Avatar still took nearly $2.8billion (£1.8billion) at the worldwide box office and remains the highest-grossing movie ever.
Notable absentees from the Top 10 include two of the most popular movies at the box office this year – Toy Story 3 and Alice In Wonderland.
TorrentFreak.com chiefs said the figures were collected from a variety of sources, including reports from thousands of BitTorrent trackers.
