Babyshambles play surprise London gig

Babyshambles made a surprise appearance at Club NME last night (February 10).

Pete Doherty’s band played an unbilled slot at London venue Koko, entertaining fans with a set that lasted for over an hour.

There were rumours ahead of the night that surprise guests would make an appearance during the night, following Clap Your Hands Say Yeah’s ShockWaves NME Awards 2006 show.

And following a set by Battle, Pete Doherty’s band took the stage at 1.30am to rapturous applause.

Playing at songs including ‘Pipe Down’, ‘Fuck Forever’, ‘Stix And Stones’ and ‘Back For The Dead’, Doherty, wearing a train driver's cap, led his band through a brisk set.

Joined by Adam Fieck on drums and Drew McConnell – sporting a set of rosary beads similar to those worn by Doherty during his sentencing hearing at Ealing Magistrates Court on February 8 – on bass, the three-piece were joined by two guests.

The General joined the band for ‘Down In Albion’ track ‘Pentonville’, before McConnell asked “Is Wolfman in the house?” during the encore.

Doherty’s old collaborator promptly appeared on stage for a version of ‘For Lovers’ and ‘Wolfman’.

As previously reported, the band have rescheduled the three dates that were postponed when Doherty was held on remand, as well as adding several new shows to the tour.
