Pete Doherty’s lawyer Sean Curran has confirmed the singer is in rehab in Portugal and that his detox treatment is proceeding successfully.

Curran also mentioned that Doherty was expected to return to the UK on Saturday (June 10).

“I have spoken to the person who is managing Mr Doherty at present and he has confirmed he is in Portugal and he is at the clinic. I understand the treatment is going well and he is due to return back to the UK on Saturday,” Curran said.

The Babyshambles singer was due to attend a hearing at London’s Thames Magistrates Court today (June 9) to review his progress in tackling his drug addiction.

But Curran explained that there were “valid reasons” why Doherty was unable to attend the hearing.

District Judge Jane McIvor agreed that there was suitable explanation for the singer’s absence. She said it was a “tough struggle for him, but he’s not going backwards,” according the BBC website.

As previously reported by NME.COM, Doherty will spend the next few weeks detoxing, after which he will be fitted with an opiate suppressing implant.
